Proper Timing for Basti
• Basti is generally done in the morning, but
follows seasonal indications like ¨ In late Spring, Summer and Autumn,
Anuvasanabasti is given early morning.In Winter and early Spring Anuvasanabasti
is given in the evening
• Anuvasanabasti is given after small diet.
Types of
Basti

1) Basti-The medicated decoctions and oils are passed
in GI tract through anus. According to
the substance used for, Basti is of two type
Anuvasan basti and Niruha basti.
I.
AnuvasanBasti-
·
In this type
oil is used. Usually processed medicated oils are used.
·
it is the
oleation process and can be given daily.
·
Generally oils like Bala,
Balaguduchyadi, Bala Ashwagandhadi, Lakshadi are used for degenerative
pathology.
·
Sahacharadi, Triphaladi, Chinchalavan
are used for obstructive pathology or in obesity associated morbidities
Indications:
•
All
indications of niruhabasti are indicated for anuvasan also.
•
Persons with
extreme dryness of vata dosha.
•
Pregnancy
---- Matrabasti with dose of 40 to 60 ml of Lakshadi tail or Shatavari tail is
given in the 7th month of pregnancy.
Contraindications:-
•
Condition contraindicated
to Asthapan or Niruha Basti
•
Empty
stomach
•
Acute fever
•
GIT –
anemia, jaundice, anorexia, spleenomegaly, ascitis, liver disorder, hunger,
diarrhea
•
Respiratory
– corrhyza, productive cough(kaphajakasa)
•
Kushtha –
skin eruption with discharge
• Urustambha
• ENT:-nasal
inflammation, eye inflammation.
• Harmonal:-
Diabetes, thyroid disorder
• The abdominal pain
due to Kapha, ama conditions, extreme obesity,
Intestinal
parasites, poisoning, gout
