All about Uttar Basti

Uttar Basti ---- The medicated decoctions and oils are passed in the urinary bladder through urethra or in uterus through vagina.
In male it is given though urethra , while In female it is given through vagina.

Uttar basti – in female

Indications:

      It is indicated in menstrual problems like amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, menorrhegia, leucorrhea.
      It is used in primary and secondary infertility.
      It is very much useful to remove Tubal blocks
      It is used in patient of recurrent abortions.
      PCOD
      It is used for urethral stricture and dysuria.

Specific Time-

 After the menses on the 5,6,& 7th day for the 3 months.

Instruments:

        Cuscos speculum, Infant feeding tube no. 8 or simple rubber catheter no. 3, syringe of 5ml, betadin, cotton, gloves, swab holder, IUI  canula ( Intra Uterine Canula) ,Tampoon, Drepping clothes
        All instruments should be sterilized  in Autoclave

Procedure:-

      Pre therapeutic procedure --- Two  Nirhuha with Dashamool &Triphalabharad are given prior to Utter Basti.
      Lithotomy position is given to the patient.
      Painting and drepping is done
      Sims speculum is applied.
      Infant feeding tube or catheter is inserted in the uterus through the cervix  very gently and carefully upto 3cm.
      Dose of sneha :--  3cc to 5cc
      Sneha is taken in syringe and administer in uterus ,with Intra Uterine canula  
      Post therapeutic position should be ‘Head low position’ given for about 1 hour.

Applied uttar basti --

      In strictures or obstructive pathology- Kshar, Kasis ,Sahachar oils are used.
      In infertility Narayan oil or Phala Ghrut are used.
      For improving the strength of reproductive organs the Phala Ghrut or Bala Oil, Yashtimadhu oil is used.

Uttar Basti– In Male

      Instruments: --- Simple Rubber Catheter 3 Number, Gloves, Xylocaine gel 2%  & Syringe of 50 ml are needed.
      These all instruments to be used should be sterile.
      Sneha needed in a dose of 20-50 ml.
      After stool passing in the morning it is given in between 6 to 9 a.m. or in the evening in between 5-7.
      It is given either every day or an alternate day for 7-14 days.

Procedure-

      The catheter should be inserted in the urethra up to 3-5 cms.
      The sneha should be administered very slowly.
      After the treatment Green Gram soup or meat soup should be given to patient.
      Patients should be asked to avoid the sexual act during the course of the therapy.
Cleaning of the genitals is advised specifically.
